Carers Rights Day event report
Bridport Carers Rights Day information and advice event Monday 23 November 2015
Carers’ Rights Day was on Friday 20 November; here in the West Dorset Locality we celebrated the day with a locality event held on Monday 23 November at Bridport Medical Centre. The event provided a drop in gathering together with experts to answer questions on a wide range of topics from looking after yourself to changes being brought in by the new Care Act.
Organisations taking part included:
POPP - the Partnership for Older People’s Programme
CAB - Citizens Advice Bureau
The Alzheimesr Society
Dorset Fire and Rescue Home Safety Team
The Living Tree
A member of the Medical Centre’s Healthcare Team was available during the morning to offer health checks.
Dorset County Council Carers Caseworker
The Clinical Commissioning Group Carers Facilitator
The event was promoted through the local press, Wessex FM, Access Dorset and all Local GP surgeries.
Sadly only a small number of carers attended but those that came found the event helpful. The organisations participating all agreed that it provided them with the opportunity to network and there was always a good buzz in the room.
I would like to extend a big thank you to our GP colleagues who found time to come in and find out more about what is available locally to support carers.
This was our first Locality event and we can work towards attracting more carers with future events. If you would like to know when our next event will be please contact to leave your contact details.
